WITCH PUPPETEER DOLL

Hi All,
Well, I've decided it's time to get back to my Witch Puppeteer doll. I started it last year, but had to stop to get other things done.

This is what it looked like last year when I stopped on it, with the top part all pinned together:

And now, I've finished sculpting the little puppets (4" tall), dressed them, and attached the strings:

And attached the arms, got the puppet controls done, and finished the neck with a crochet doily:

All that's left to do is the head, and it will be done. Keep posted for the finished doll!

Laurie Mika Workshop

Hi All,
Last weekend I took a 2-day class with polymer clay artist Laurie Mika. What a joy! It was so fun to step out of my comfort zone and do something different. It had nothing to do with dolls or Halloween crafts!

Laurie teaches a mixed-media technique where you make small polymer clay tiles, and you assemble them together with lots of other pieces of jewelry, glass, beads, and any other various "doo-dads" that you can come up with. It's part mosaic, part collage.

This class was about making a Gothic-style Triptych. (A Triptych is a 3-sided piece where 2 sides are hinged to close and open) So, we had the choice of decorating all six sides!

Here are some photos of the class work-in-progress:

As you can see, we are making tiles and assembling the pieces to fit on the wooden form. The clay tiles we made are stamped with texture, painted, be-jeweled, layered, then baked. So many elements!

Here are some of the almost finished pieces:

And, here is my effort:

Funny, mine seems to be more colorful than most......
My goal was to embellish each and every tile with as much texture and jewelry and I could pile on. But, Laurie suggested I don't do every tile, so it would give the viewer's eye a rest.

Mine is still not finished (have to add some texture to the background, and need to add a few more tile to the bottom), but I'm happy with the results.

Laurie is a great teacher and artist, and we were honored to have her come to Albuquerque to teach us.
